How RoofRenew Works
Asphalt Shingles Just Aren’t What They Used To Be
How Does RoofRenew Work And Why?
Shingles are most commonly made from asphalt. There is a fiberglass center sandwiched by two pieces of asphalt. In the early 2000’s changes were made in the oil refinery process that essentially reduced the amount of oil content in asphalt by about 50%.
This leads to shingles being supplemented with crushed limestone and essentially causes two problems.
1-With time shingles lose their flexibility and can become brittle. In time the shingle breaks down to the point of needing replacement.
2- Bacterial spores feed on the limestone which creates the streaking often seen on roofs.
By treating your roof (and cleaning if streaking is present) with RoofRenew your shingles are receiving an “oil bath”. The shingles soak up the soybean oil and are returned to a like-new state that restores flexibility.
Your roof treatment is warranteed (pro-rated) for 5 years to maintain shingle flexibility. A roof may be treated 3 times thereby extending roof life by up to 15 years.
Many people believe the 20 year warranty means they get a new roof if after 10 years there are problems.
The most common kind of roof warranty is a shingle warranty or manufacturer’s warranty, which may cover you for 20 to 50 years. However, this type of warranty only protects you against defects in the roofing materials themselves, causing them to break down or fail before they should.
In reality, a manufacturer’s warranty may be void if the homeowner cannot demonstrate the roof has been periodically maintained
Although having a manufacturer warranty is valuable, it’s actually rare for a roofing problem to be traced to a manufacturing defect. More commonly, a substandard roof is attributable to poor installation — against which you may have no warranty.
